Joseph Robert Murphy was born in Brooklyn, NY on October 21, 1926 to Margaret G. and Joseph J. Murphy. He passed away peacefully on Friday, August 12, 2016.
He is survived by his brother, William and his wife, Sonja Murphy and his sister-in-law, Ethel McBride. He was also a devoted brother-in-law to the deceased Sr. Jeanne Perrine, RSM, George and Jeanne Perrine, and John McBride.
As a devoted family man known by many different names throughout his lifetime – Joseph, Joe, Bob, Dad (aka “Mr. Softee”), Joe Bob, Grandpa, Gpa, and Joe Joe Bob – we take comfort knowing that he is now reunited with his beloved wife and our mother, Geraldine. Through their love and faith, they had seven children, Robert Murphy, Patricia McManus, Margaret McKenna (deceased), Virginia Rup, Mary Jane Murphy, Ann Walter and Colette Murphy.
During 59 yrs. of marriage, they watched their family grow to include their children’s spouses Donna (Wade) Murphy, Robert V. McKenna (deceased), Gregory Rup and Robert Walter; 13 grandchildren – Terrence and Blythe (Hough) Murphy, Patrick and Julie (Long) Murphy, Annmarie (McKenna) and Kevin Hufford, Keri Ann (McKenna) and Peter Calvo, Kim (Paley) and Robert McKenna, Jr., Sean McKenna, Michael McKenna, Colette Rup, Gregory and Anna (Donnelly) Rup, Christian Rup, James Walter (deceased), Jeannemarie (Walter) and Adam Margolias, and Joseph Walter; and 18 great-grandchildren – Brenna and Brogan Murphy, Molly and Kellen Murphy, Tanner, Alexander, Luke and Joshua Hufford, Kaleigh, Peter, Ryan and Meghan Calvo, Madison and Brady McKenna, Aiden McKenna, Gregory Rup and Dylan and Jillian Margolias.
Visitation will be at McManus Funeral Home, 4601 Avenue N, Brooklyn, NY on Wednesday, August 17th from 5 – 8 pm and Thursday, August 18th from 2 – 4:30 pm and 7 – 9 pm.
