Obituary for Rose Del Masto

Rose DelMasto passed away peacefully at home in the early hours of Tuesday March 15 at the age of 101. Born Rose Losinno in Brooklyn, NY on September 5, 1920, she was the fifth of ten children. Although she was a bright student who loved learning, she left high school before graduating to help support her family, eventually gaining employment as an operator at Bell Telephone, where she was highly regarded.
She married the love of her life, Charles Inserra in 1946, an event that was significantly delayed by wartime military service. This union resulted in Rose’s (nicknamed Rossi) being welcomed into a second large loving family – the Inserras. Together Charles (a longshoreman) and Rose welcomed and raised three children – Marie (b.1947), the late Charles (b. 1953) and Virginia (b.1954). Their happy lives were tragically interrupted by Charles Sr’s death at age 55 in 1969,following a long illness. In 1972 she met and subsequently married Frank DelMasto, with whom she shared her life until his death in 2002.
Perhaps the saddest experience of her life was the tragic and premature death of her only son in 1995. The love and support she derived from her daughter-in-law Joan (Riggio) and her grandchildren (Charles, Christopher and Lauren) and other family members helped sustain her during this terrible loss.
Following the death of her second husband, she continued to live in Brooklyn, with much assistance provided by her devoted daughter Virginia. In 2018 Rose and Virginia moved to Peekskill,NY in order to live closer to Marie and her spouse, John Sullivan. Rose’s warm and sociable nature and her love of cats endeared her to many, She is survived by her immediate family members mentioned previously, great-grandchildren Louis, Genevieve, Sophia and Gabriella, her three remaining siblings (Peter, Carmela and Joseph), sister-in-law Carol, a large, loving contingent of Losinno and Inserra nieces, nephews and their progeny, and DelMasto family members. She will be greatly missed by all for her incredible memory of family members and events, her sociable nature and her tart sense of humor.
Rest in peace, Mom.
