Obituary for John Stanislaus

John Gerard Stanislaus passed away unexpectedly on January 1, 2023 at the age of 59. He was the youngest of five children, born on November 20, 1963 in Brooklyn, NY to Beryl Stanislaus and the Honorable Lamuel Stanislaus. John was often referred to lovingly as, "J Johnny" by close family and friends.

He attended kindergarten at PS 92 in Brooklyn, NY and thereafter attended grade school at St. Francis of Assisi, where he graduated at the top of his class. John graduated from Brooklyn Technical High School with honors and then obtained his Bachelor of Science degree in Biology, at Columbia University, magna cum laude. John completed his medical school education at Columbia University Medical School.

John was employed by St. George's University School of Medicine, Grenada, West Indies. While serving as the Senior Clinical Coordinator of Electives, he was a passionate and zealous advocate for medical students at Brooklyn Hospital and the Manhattan Psychiatric Center.

John relished cooking, listening to music of all genres, as well as playing the piano. He enjoyed biking and scooter riding. John was a tremendous athlete and was especially proud of the "6 am Wingate Buckets," a basketball and football team which he played on for over 30 years.

John was prayerful, compassionate, kind and generous. He was a loving and devoted son, brother, uncle, and friend. He was an exemplary godfather to his godson, Tyson, and a wonderful uncle to all of his nieces and nephews. He also loved and enjoyed his various uncles, aunts, and cousins.

He leaves behind his four siblings, Lamuel, Galen (Belvin), Karen and Eugene; nieces, Tara (Chris) and Jeanine; nephews, Tyson (Sophia), Justin, Jason, Travis, and Jeremy (Alicia); as well as great nieces Genevieve, Maya and Stella and great nephew, Derek. John also leaves behind Auntie Judith, Auntie Tina, Auntie Rita, Auntie Evelyn, Auntie Yvonne, his beloved godmother, Catherine Richardson, and numerous cousins and friends.

The family of John Gerard Stanislaus extends its love and appreciation to all those who shared in John's life and for the many Tributes given as they mourn his passing.
