On Wednesday, February 1st, 2023 beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and auntie, found peace everlasting. Frances began her brilliant life on May 10, 1952. Born to Mary and Bob Alonso. Frances was born on a naval base on Chincoteaque Island, Virginia where her father Robert Julian Alonso was stationed. Frances was proudly raised in The Bronx, New York, then moved to Farmingville, New York where she attended Sachem High School graduating in 1970.
Frances is survived by her loving husband Victor along with both of their daughters Ariana Sorrisio Sanford (Adam Sanford) and Victoria Sorrisio (James Powell). Frances cherished her grandson, Nicholas Sanford whom she called "Pookalicious" Frances' best friend were her siblings, Gabriella Alonso Lester (Robert Lester) and Robert J. Alonso Jr (Barbara Wolfwrath Alonso) She was a loving Auntie to Sarah Jeanne Alonso. Jessica Burns, Melissa Burns-Young, and Alec and Olivia Lester. Her great niece and nephew; Joanna Burns Hannigan and Joseph Young. Her beloved pets Luna and Meowth.
Frances was a proud nurse graduating from Jewish Hospital and Medical Center of Brooklyn School of Nursing in 1977. Frances was very proud to be a Nurse. She loved her job; especially when she worked with the babies post-delivery. She was a compassionate nurse throughout New York City, from a neonatal nurse at Bellevue and NYU, a foster care nurse at Sheltering Arms, and a school nurse in Brooklyn.
While employed at Jewish Hospital and Medical Center, Francis met the love of her life, Victor Sorrisio. They were engaged on Valentine's Day 1981, married on June 23, 1981, the lovebirds celebrated almost 42 years of wedded bliss.
Frances was an avid reader who read up to two books a day on occasion. Frances had an eclectic taste in novels from historical fiction to fantasy. One of her favorite novels being Lord of the Rings. Frances was a musicophile who loved classic rock. musicals. Motown and classic R&B. Frances was known for her sarcastic wit and humor; a brilliant person who was so humble she'd claim she wasn't smart at all. She had a font of knowledge, adept at Jeopardy and most other trivia. She always gave the best advice, even if we didn't always take it. Frances was quick to let us know when she was right; and she was!
Frances lived for her family; she was very generous and loving in her own special way. If she liked, you; you knew it by her showing you in her way. She is very missed by all. She was the matriarch that was the glue of our family.
One of Frances' wishes was for donations to the American Heart Association. As person who suffered a heart attack during her life hearth health was her passion.
